Getting Started

minecraft.aedifice.org is a private Minecraft server that uses a variety of mods. The server and mods generally have a focus on magic, content, and complex/multiblock tech and automation. It also strives to add a few RPG elements to make the world more fantastical and uncanny.

The server is private, and you cannot join without permission.

The following discussion of mods is far from complete, mainly meant to be a brief summary and pointers to a few useful things.

UI Mods

Data

The modpack uses Just Enough Items and Hwyla, as well as whatever supporting mods are available for additional content.

Just Enough Resources is present, but does not yet have a command for generating ore depth and frequency yet in 1.16 Minecraft.

Neat is used to show enemy healthbars.

UI Tweaks

The modpack uses Quark’s inventory sorting, but still include Inventory Tweaks Renewed still to replace broken items in your hotbar. It also has Crafting Tweaks and Mouse Tweaks for general crafting enhancements.

Maps

It currently uses Xaero’s Minimap and World Map since they seem to work best on 1.16. FTB-Chunks is also present for claiming chunks (FTB-Chunks provides a minimap, but it lacks keybindings and cannot show cave maps).

The default keys have been modified for Xaero’s Minimap. You should review the key bindings to meet your own needs/preferences:

  • = zooms in
  • - zooms out
  • , creates a waypoint
  • . manages all waypoints
  • m Shows Xaero’s World Map
  • shift+m Shows FTB-Chunks world map
  • y currently brings up Xaero’s Minimap’s config
  • ] currently brings up Xaero’s World Map’s config

Ambiance

  • Ambient Sounds 3 adds ambient sounds
  • Sound Filters adds depth of sound
  • EnhancedVisuals adds visual effects when you take damage, are close to Endermen, etc.

Quality of Life Mods

Probably the most important ones to be ware of:

  • Carry On Lets you shift-right-click a tile entity or a mob to pick it up and carry it
  • FTB Ultimine Lets you hold down ` (backtick, can be changed) while breaking blocks to break a large number of them at the same time
  • Rapid Leaf Decay will cause leaves to decay rapidly after a tree is chopped down
  • Tree Harvester lets you sneak-chop down a whole tree at once (including the leaves). It will also replant a sapling if you chop it down at its base

Additionally:

  • Wither Skeleton Tweaks makes wither skeletons easier to find and less of a chore to grind
  • KleeSlabs lets you break half of a double-slab
  • NetherPortalFix Improves how Nether Portals link together
  • Craftable Horse Armour & Saddle adds recipes for crafting horse armor and saddles
  • Quark Adds a wide variety of enhancements that can’t all be summarized here.
  • Comforts Adds sleeping bags and hammocks to “sleep” and move time forward to the next day or night

  • Cooking for Blockheads adds an incredibly useful cookbook and a multi-block kitchen that makes it easier to craft most food recipes
  • Farming for Blockheads adds a Market block for buying seeds

  • Ashenwheat Adds crops that can be grown to produce food, charcoal, bonemeal, gunpowder, and glowstone.
  • Ender Tendrils Adds an ender tendril to loot chests that grows downwards and drops tendril pearls which can be used in place of ender pearls in most recipes. (It’s the closest thing to Ender Crops for 1.16)

Magic Mods

  • Ars Nouveau is a spell-crafting mod that also adds cute spirits that you can teach spells to
  • Astral Sorcery uses marble and crystals to harness the power of the stars for powerful magic
  • Botania is all about cultivating colorful flowers to channel mana to create powerful magic items and to create complex multiblock contraptions for automation
  • Nature’s Aura is a magic themed mod based around using and replenishing a given region’s aura. A strong aura boosts plant growth and other magical effects, but using the aura allows you to construct devices and enchantments.
  • Psi is a magical tech spell programming mod inspired by Mahouka. Don’t worry if that doesn’t make any sense.

Tech Mods

  • Crossroads MC is another tech/magic mod that is all about building complex multiblock contraptions for automation
  • Essentials is a companion mod to Crossroads that adds some extra automation on top of vanilla Minecraft
  • Environmental Tech adds powerful multi-block machines that can generate resources, produce power, provide beacon effects. Warning: a new version of this mod is now on 1.16, but it lacks an in-game manual

  • Applied Energistics 2 is a tech/energy/content mod that is still centered around mass storage of items/blocks
  • EnderChests adds multi-channel ender chests (similar to the old chickenbones mod)
  • Iron Chests adds larger storage inventories
  • Storage Drawers adds drawers that can be used to store items

Tools

  • Angel Ring adds the angel ring from Extra Utilities. It is just a ring that allows for creative-mode-style flight, from a fairly expensive recipe
  • Engineer’s Tools adds a variety of tools themed around Immersive Engineering, including the Ariadne Coal, which lets you draw arrows (the arrow will point in the direction you right-clicked closest to on a given block. Eg, if you click near the top-right of a block, then the arrow points up and to the right)
  • Miner’s Helmet can be worn to have dynamic lighting while in darkness
  • Scuba Gear adds equipment for breathing underwater
  • Silent Gear lets you build customizable tools from blueprints. It is derived from Silent’s Gems, which can be used to build parts for tools.
  • Simply Jetpacks 2 lets you fly around using energy-based jetpacks.
  • Structurize adds wands for creating structure templates, and then making new ones elsewhere.
  • Vanilla Excavators adds giant shovels that can dig a 3x3 area
  • Vanilla Hammers adds giant hammers that can mine a 3x3 area
